A five-year strip-down service on a Worcester Bosch 15Ri
We fitted this Worcester Bosch 15Ri heat-only boiler for a long-standing customer in Aston Clinton several years ago. Once it reached five years old, it was due a full strip-down service in line with the manufacturer’s servicing requirements.
A strip-down goes a lot further than a routine service. Here’s what it involves and why it matters.

At a glance
Why a strip-down service?
An annual service checks, cleans and tests the main parts of your boiler. A strip-down service goes further. The boiler is taken apart so the heat exchanger and burner can be properly cleaned, and worn seals and electrodes can be replaced before they cause problems.
Annual service
Checks, cleans and tests
Safety and combustion checks, a clean of key parts, and making sure everything is working correctly.
Strip-down service
Taken apart and deep cleaned
The burner and heat exchanger come out for a thorough clean, with new gaskets and electrodes fitted.
What we did
Stripping the boiler down
We stripped the boiler down and checked the components we removed, including the fan and baffles.
Cleaning the heat exchanger
The heat exchanger was cleaned thoroughly using brushes and a mini jet wash, and we cleaned out the condensate trap too.

New parts, then testing
New burner gaskets and electrodes were fitted before the boiler was put back together. We then fired it up and carried out the required combustion and pressure checks.
Good to know
Looking after your boiler between services
- Book your service every 12 months. It’s usually a condition of your boiler’s guarantee.
- In freezing weather, keep an eye on the condensate pipe outside. A frozen condensate pipe is a common cause of winter breakdowns.
- Fit a carbon monoxide alarm near the boiler and test it regularly.
- If your CO alarm goes off, turn the boiler off, open the windows and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
The result
The boiler was returned to service clean, correctly assembled and running within the manufacturer’s specified tolerances, helping it keep working safely and efficiently.
Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between an annual service and a strip-down service?
An annual service covers the safety checks and a clean of the key parts. A strip-down service takes the boiler apart so the heat exchanger and burner can be deep cleaned and seals and electrodes replaced.
How often does a boiler need a strip-down service?
It depends on the manufacturer and the model. Some boilers need one at a set age or interval, and others only when the service checks show it’s needed. We follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your boiler.
Do you service boilers you didn’t fit?
Yes. We service boilers we’ve fitted and ones we haven’t, including Worcester Bosch, Ideal and Baxi.
Is your boiler due a service?
We service boilers across Aston Clinton, Aylesbury and the surrounding area. Spread the cost with a boiler care plan that includes your annual service.
